What is this?
D4 RINs are generated when biomass-based diesel — primarily soybean oil and used cooking oil biodiesel — is produced or imported under the U.S. Renewable Fuel Standard. Each gallon of qualifying biodiesel produces 1.5 RINs (FAME) or 1.7 RINs (renewable diesel) per 40 CFR 80.1415. The equivalence-value system shifts to a flat 1.5 multiplier on 2027-01-01.
